We establish a connection through eye contact.
When we meet our audiences gaze, we show them respect by acknowledging them, that we are present and there for them.
When we make eye contact we are being ‘vulnerable’ and open, therefore relatable and trust-worthy.
Taking a moment to take our audience in allows them to also take us in and settle into listening to our words.
And, our eye contact is an invitation to them to respond, with nods and smiles. This feedback lets us know our message is being received by the audience.
Plus, our audience are better able to absorb our message through our (non-verbals) eye cues.
